GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE KHANSAHIB
NSS-Unit Conducted Cleanliness Drive on 17th December 2021.
The NSS Unit of GDC Khansahib conducted a cleanliness drive on 17th December 2021 at two villages falling in tehsil Khansahib: Arigam & Kaitch. Our volunteers along with the Programme Officer & a few faculty members departed from the campus at 11:00 AM after a brief interaction with the college Principal Dr. Syed Tanvir Indrabi. Dr. Indrabi urged the volunteers to become campus ambassadors and serve the community in every possible manner.
We first drove to Arigam and undertook cleanliness drive on the Shali Ganga Nallah which flows through this village. Our volunteers collected polythenes, plastic bottles, and other unwanted pollutants from the river and dumped the same at a designated site. It’s very disheartening to observe that the households living in its vicinity are throwing household garbage into this pristine and beautiful river.
Snow River Shali Ganga has its origins in the pir panjal himalayan range in Doodpathri area and is the source of clean drinking water for a number of villages falling in district Budgam. Its water is used for agricultural purposes as well.
Thereafter, we took another cleanliness drive at village Kaith.
A spring at Peer mohalla, near a mosque, was found to be under shabby conditions. It needs urgent attention from the government side for making its water usable and save it from further encroachments. In the future programmes NSS-GDC Khansahib will try to mobilse civil society actors for the protection of water bodies in the region.
Upon return from these two places we again assembled at the campus and Mr. Bilal Ahmad, a fourth semester student, was felicitated by Dr. Indrabi for his sincere commitment and hard-work he puts in different NSS activities. The day ended with a light refreshment for the participants.
