The Red Ribbon Club of Govt. Degree College Khansahib in collaboration with J&K State Aids Control Society celebrated the International Youth Day on the 26th of September 2018. The theme of this year’s event was “Safe Spaces for Youth”. In this connection, the College Red Ribbon Club under the guidance of Mr. Mohammed Mohsin, Asstt Prof English and Mr. Mohasin Maqbool, Asstt Prof Urdu, organized some activities for the students, which included “A Seminar”, “Poster Making” and “Taking out a Rally to the Main Market of Khansahib”.
The worthy Principal Dr. Bashir Ahmad Soudagar addressed the students and shed some light upon the theme of the seminar. He insisted that the youth have to ensure safe spaces for themselves and at the same time provide safe spaces for their fellow young people. He appreciated the students for participating in the programme of this nature and encouraged them to come forward and share their thoughts in future as well.
Dr Fayaz Ahmad, lecturer Arabic, also enlightened the students with his thoughts. Reiterating upon the importance of having a sense of responsibility, he discussed upon the role of moral education in countering ignorance. It is ignorance which eventually leads youth into unsafe zones and unsafe places, he remarked. He went on to explain in detail the religious injunctions and principles that safeguard all kinds of spaces for the youth in particular and for the humanity in general.
Earlier on, the convener Red Ribbon Club, Mr. Mohd Mohsin, informed the audience about the theme of the event and explained the message contained in this year’s theme. He stressed upon the fact that the youth is a critical stage of a person’s life and it is full of risks and dangers. He explained that there are different kind of spaces wherein the youth participate. These include, Physical spaces, the psychological spaces, the social media networking sites, the religious spaces etc. He insisted that we have to ensure that our youth have safe spaces all around. In the contemporary world, with the intense increase in the participation of the youth in social media networking sites, it is the duty of the learned to caution the youth from being misled through social media networking sites or through the false media of the day. He insisted that one has to be very cautious in believing whatever is propagated in social media or any other form of the media in the contemporary world. It is through misinformation and false propaganda that the spaces for our youth are becoming unsafe.
Besides the teaching faculty, many students also spoke on the theme of the event. The students that spoke on the event include Ms Bazila Rasool, Ms Shazia, Ms Iqra Nabi, Ms Shugufta Majeed all students of BA 3rd Semester and Fourth Semester.
Mr. Mohasin Maqbool, Asst Prof Urdu, Presented a vote of thanks and Ms. Rubaya Rashid, student of BA 3rd semester, anchored the proceedings of the seminar.
Soon after the seminar, a rally of the students carrying posters was taken from the college to the main market of Khansahib. The Rally was accompanied by the Mr. Mohammad Mohsin Asst Prof English Convener RRC and Mr. Mohsin Maqbool Asst Prof Urdu Co-Convener RRC. The efforts and the programmes were highly appreciated by the local community. The rally culminated at the college campus after certificates were distributed among the students.
