Govt. Degree College - Khansahib

INTRODUCTION

Standing tall in the lap of the Kaatrash Carewa Government Degree College Khansahib was established under the state plan vide Govt. order No.269 HE of 2007 dated 20-12- 2007. The college in this rural area, consisting of one hundred and twenty nine villages, was the result of long drawn struggle of the people of this sub-district who from time to time were pressing hard for an institution of this nature. The college started functioning in Bal Ashram Building of Social Welfare Department with a combination of four subjects only viz. General English, Urdu, History and Political science. At present college is functioning from its new campus and imparts education at undergraduate level in twelve subjects in Arts. The introduction of Science subjects is in the pipeline as four posts in Science have been created by Department of Higher Education. College has also sent a proposal for the introduction of few more subjects like Applied Mathematics, Computer Application, Geography, Geology and Home Science to the Department of Higher Education for approval. These subjects are offered by the feeding Higher Secondary’s and the Introduction of these subjects definitely will boost the student enrollment and make education more accessible in this educationally backward block.

The college has acquired 63.18 Kanals of land in 2010 and construction work of the two storey building completed in December 2016. The college shifted to the new campus in 2017. 2 | Page Govt. Degree College Khansahib is affiliated to the University of Kashmir since its inception in 2008 and has received permanent affiliation in 2011. College is also included in the list of colleges recognized under section 2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956 by the University Grants Commission New Delhi.

In this short span of time College administration has taken some significant steps to improve the quality of education and under the able leadership of esteemed Principal the college administration is very keen to upgrade the facilities to meet the challenges of the millennium.
